With advancements in information and communication technology, modern security systems are evolving beyond simple surveillance to incorporate more intelligent features. Li-SOCl₂ batteries are commonly used in wired and wireless motion detection sensors, as well as in wireless control boxes, magnetic switches, digital door locks, control transmitters, glass break detectors, shock and vibration sensors, gas leak detectors, gas exposure alarms, water leak sensors, and low-temperature detection devices.

For motion detection, Passive Infrared (PIR) sensors are often used to detect object movements. These systems require extremely low standby currents in the microampere range and medium pulse currents in the milliampere range during detection and transmission. In such cases, Li-SOCl₂ batteries offer 1.5 to 2 times the lifespan of other batteries of similar standard capacity. The expected lifespan varies by sensor type but typically ranges from 2 to 10 years. Additionally, compared to other non-rechargeable lithium batteries, Li-SOCl₂ batteries are less affected by environmental conditions.
