Road toll collection

Efficient, cashless tolling for
faster and smoother journeys.
Automatic toll collection systems using RFID technology on toll roads, airports, tunnels, and bridges effectively reduce travel time and traffic congestion while saving fuel and reducing pollution. As a result, many countries are actively implementing and expanding these systems. Automatic toll collection systems generally operate by having the On-Board Unit (OBU) in the vehicle send multiple active wireless signals to the toll gate booth as the vehicle passes through, enabling balance verification or toll charges.
Some countries impose road and environmental usage fees on transcontinental trucks or buses passing through their territories. In these cases, trucks or buses require specialized toll collection terminals equipped with lithium batteries when traveling through such regions.
Automatic toll collection OBUs are typically installed on the interior windshield or dashboard of vehicles, where they are exposed to temperatures ranging from -40°C to +100°C or higher, as well as constant vibrations and physical stress. Batteries used in these systems must perform reliably under such harsh conditions, and only Li-SOCl₂ batteries meet these requirements. Consequently, most OBUs utilize Li-SOCl₂ batteries. Some OBU manufacturers also pair the battery with a capacitor in parallel to mitigate the common voltage drop characteristic of Li-SOCl₂ batteries. The lifespan of the terminal depends on its current consumption but generally ranges from 5 to 10 years.
XenoEnergy, after undergoing extensive approval processes, currently supplies Li-SOCl₂ batteries to top-tier toll collection terminal manufacturers in the United States and Europe.
