Advanced Metering Systems

From manual to smart —
enabling a digital energy future.

Utility meters, including electric meters, water meters, gas meters, and heat meters, as well as metering systems for residential or industrial use, represent the largest market for Li-SOCl₂ batteries. Compared to other batteries, Li-SOCl₂ batteries deliver superior performance in diverse external temperatures and environmental conditions. Their low self-discharge rate and stable voltage characteristics make them ideal as the primary power source for utility meters, with a lifespan of 10 to 15 years or more.

Recently, emerging markets have been rapidly adopting digitalization to modernize utility meters, leading to increased demand for Li-SOCl₂ batteries. In developed countries, there is a growing focus on green energy, along with the development of real-time or batch automatic meter reading (AMR) systems, advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), and smart meters. These advancements are primarily powered by Li-SOCl₂ batteries, and their application is expanding globally, including in South Korea.

For periodic meter reading using GPS or long-distance wireless systems, which require high pulse currents, Li-SOCl₂ batteries can be paired with EDLCs (Super Capacitors) in parallel. This configuration provides the necessary power for high-current pulse requirements, offering superior safety and long-term performance compared to individual high-current batteries.

Xeno Energy, with its extensive experience and proven reliability, supplies products to numerous utility meter manufacturers and service providers worldwide, ensuring consistent and efficient power solutions for a variety of applications.
